Hi,

At the moment I use AB PLC type SLC5 / 05 and software that I use is RS500. I have a problem about COMMENT / DESCRIPTION input / output and also I do not know HOW TO PRINT the CROSSREFERENCE.
I have an OLD file with complete comment / description but when I ONLINE and make an UPLOAD the latest program, is OK but NO COMMENT display.
So, can someone help me HOW TO MAKE COPY THE COMMENT / DESCRIPTION FROM OLD FILE TO THE LATEST PROGRAM ( I got when make it upload / online ).
And also, HOW TO PRINT THE CROSS REFERENCE ?

regards,

INDRA

Hi and welcome to our forum! Let me address your loss of descriptions first. It is important to understand that the SLC line does not store your comments and descriptions on the processor. Those are only stored on the offline program file on your PC. With that said, you can see how important it is to keep track of your offline program file. You are having a problem that drives many a SLC programmer crazy. When you try to go online you get what I like to call the browse window. Rockwell calls it the On/Offline programming state dialog. This is only supposed to happen when your offline program file and your online file do not match. When you get this window you can:

1. Create a new file without documentation (ie, just upload the existing logic from the SLC and as I just said no documentation is on the SLC)

2. Pick a document from the listed files. RSLogix lists files in your project subdirectory that are available and you can pick a file and click 'Upload use file' This will merge your file's documentation with the online logic.

3. Use the Browse button. I always have to use this option as my files are stored in directories associated with our projects. The browse button lets you look through the folders on your computer and pick the one that holds your files. Once you pick a directory that has valid program files in it, the you follow the instructions of 2 above.

This is a topic I have slated for a video. It is also something that Rockwell could handle better in their software. I will never understand why if you have an offline file open it doesnt at least ask if you are interested in using that file.

Hope this helps. I will answer your other question in a new post as this is getting long

Ok part 2 - Cross reference printing.

First let me state that I never print cross refereneces anymore. It is much easier - assuming you have the software - to right click on an address in your project and select crossreference from the pull down. This will bring up the cross reference dialog and you can then click on the location listed in that reference and go right to your instruction. This is the most useful troubleshooting tool I use.

Got that off my chest so here is how to print:

From the top menu. Select File
Select Report Options
I would then click on the button Deselect All
Look down the list of items with check boxes next to them and you will see cross reference listed. Check the box and do a print preview to see if thats what you want.
Click Print
