Hi,



I have AB DIGITAL INPUT type 1756-IB32/B.

At the moment I want to test this module only ( separate / not connected from CPU ), is working OK or not.

I can put it into the rack because the machine is running, can not be STOPPED.

So, can anyone help me HOW TO TEST this DIGITAL input, especially the PIN OUT DESCRIPTION on the backside ( 4x18 pin ) because I do not know about the this backside PINOUT description. Maybe from this backside PINOUT, I can inject the power supply for 24Vdc to make this module active then I can TEST this DIGITAL INPUT one by one OK or NOT.

I'm almost certain that the power-up voltage that comes over the backplane of the PLC rack is not 24VDC, so I wouldn't try that (probably 5 or 12VDC). Also, the card is communicating over the backplane over a serial bus, so the actual discrete inputs are not pinned out the back of the module. There may be a way to power the card up out of the slot just to see if the input LED comes on on the faceplate of the module, but I'm not sure if this is going to verify 100% that each input is working. You really need a spare rack if you can come up with one.

As Zack says, the only way to really test the card is in a rack. The 1756 I/O is hot swappable so you can pull a card and replace it while the system is running. I do not know if you can add a card to the configuration while it is running. I'll check around and get back with you. If its possible, you could test the card on your current system. Obviously it would be safer to get an additional rack and power supply with which to do this. We have a good relationship with our AB supplier and can many times borrow a rack or go to their site and use one. Have you contacted your supplier to see if this is possible?
